Ancient Oak Pollards

I regularly drive past a pasture field with a number of old pollarded Oak trees. Recently I searched on the Ancient Tree Inventory https://ati.woodlandtrust.org.uk and found that none of the tree’s in the field had been registered on there. I have arranged with the land owner to return when the tree’s come into leaf to do a Pests and Disease survey of the tree’s and register trees in the map.

Ancient and Veteran tree’s not only offer a link to our past but are such an integral bio diverse habitat for a whole range of ecology. It can take certain fungi hundreds of years before they can establish themselves in an Oak tree.

Look after your tree’s people.. they offer so much more than we sometimes give them credit for.
